Section Two: Plies & Lunges
Plies are an important requisite of the jazz dance aesthetic and very much the root form of physicality and technique used for Jazz dance outside of just using a plie in exercise.
This section of exerises is devised to improve the use of the legs, empower our central balance and core body control, whilst assisting the turn out in the hips, power in the glutes and resistance for the legs.
The Plie exercises will assist in shaping and sculpturing the muscles of the legs, hips and buttocks. The
Lunge exercises allow us to stretch out and lengthen through deep release, unlocking the muscles of the hips and allowing us to find more flexibilty through extension of movement through the legs.
There are varients to all the exercises, so feel free to adapt the exercises to suit your physical ability and level of technique. Remember to breath and relax into the stretches. Your mind and your muscles need support to find the perfect release, so focus on breathing and through every movement of the exercises to feel the real benefit of each exercise.
*Disclaimer – if you have any injuries or health concerns, please take care and adapt the exercise program to suit your personal and physical needs.
